Opioid addiction can have damaging effects on an entire family. New evidence presented in a brief by the Society for Research in Child Development shows that an intergenerational approach can have more beneficial and longer lasting outcomes when addressing the addiction.

Project 2Gen is using a two-generation framework to better understand the effects of opioid use in upstate New York. With the support of the William T. Grant Foundation, we have partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County on a project examining the links between opioid use and child maltreatment rates; the role of family drug treatment courts in mitigating child maltreatment; and interventions to reduce opioid abuse.
